In international teams, participants with a high English level tend to speak more, while those who are less fluent tend to be inhibited and withdrawn.

General estimates are that at least two billion people around the world now speak English. For this reason, more and more international companies are choosing English as their working language. This makes sense because English is the main business language in more than 60 countries around the world. However, the challenge is that when participants are from different countries, unclear communication can lead to misunderstanding and mistrust.

 

Even if you have an English training program, there may be senior managers who don't really want to learn English or highly qualified people who have a low level of fluency.

Several studies have shown that in countries where English is not an official language, the fluency gap is at least 40%.

 

Our partners are from South Africa, where there are 11 languages, so we have always worked in multilingual settings and we understand the type of interpretation that brings greater understanding, while at the same time, giving less fluent speakers an opportunity to  be exposed to their second language. We help your teams and leaders bridge the language gap by facilitating meetings where everyone feels comfortable and can make a productive input to the discussion.

 

Our meeting facilitators enable the following:

  • Meet with participants for a 30-minute briefing before the meeting and practice the key topics they would like to discuss in English

  • Facilitate positive interaction during the meeting and translate or summarize when necessary

  • At the close of the meeting, spend another 30 minutes discussing phrases and vocabulary that participants did not understand 

  • We also provide professional interpretation for confidential conversations.

 

Base price: 50,000 CLP per hour

Recommendations:

  • A good method is to show  presentations in Spanish while the presenters speak in English. In this way, those who are less fluent will understand the context.

  • The most important thing is  to not only  have an interpreter who can easily switch between Spanish and English, but to also  have an interpreter who understands the business and who can be trusted, as this is  highly confidential work.

  • We advise speakers to use as many cognates as possible, that is, words that are very similar in Spanish and English. When speakers use cognates, understanding improves. We can help train your presenters to do this.
